List of Governors

The current governing body membership is as follows...

Head Teacher:

Mr Robert Adams

Mrs Jill Whitehouse

Parent Governors:

 Mrs Jan Browne

I've been a parent governor at South Gosforth for two years now. It has been really interesting to observe and support from the 'other side of the table' having come from a teaching background.
During the last 12 months I have had the pleasure to spend some time in school, finding out more about how things work. My passion is Inclusion, and I believe that all children should have access to an inclusive, supportive and creative education. I have been able to spend time in school looking at paperwork, meeting children, asking questions and being part of some really interesting discussions around Inclusion.
As a parent governor , I just wanted to let you know / remind you that the the governing body is there to listen to you, support you and offer a link between yourselves and school.

 Mrs Amy Hopper

I am one of the parent governors within the governing body. I have two children at SGFS, one in year 4 and one in year 1, and they both absolutely love the school.  I moved from the South East with my husband in 2010 and we have lived in Gosforth ever since.  I have been a stay at home mum since having my daughter in 2011.

I wanted to become a governor to help the school be the best it can be and to utilise my skills from studying and working in Human Resources.  I am a member of the Resources committee.

 Mr Allister Hogg

I am a former International rugby player. I have played professionally for 16 years, 8 years with Edinburgh Rugby and 8 years with Newcastle Falcons. As well as this I gained 48 international Caps for Scotland.  I am currently working at Barclays Bank as a Wealth Manager. I have 2 Daughters at the school one in reception and one in Year 2. I am looking forward to working along side the other governors at the school and helping the management of the school and anyway I can.

Co-opted Governors:

Mrs Zoe Hunt

I am the Chair of the Governing Body and also on the Curriculum, Premises and Admissions Sub-Committee and the Governance and Management Link Governor. I  have one child at the school and one at GCMS and grew up in South Gosforth so have strong links to the local community.  I work as a solicitor at Newcastle City Council and I wanted to be a governor of the school as I felt that my professional background meant that I have a lot of useful skills that I could contribute to its governance and that this would be a good way for me to make my contribution to school life. If you would like to contact me about anything then please do so through the school email, governor services email or feel free to talk to me in the school yard as I am there several times a week.

Mrs Jo Fields

I started my teaching career briefly in my home city of Lincoln but was drawn back to the North-East where I had studied for a BSc in Psychology and a PGCE in Primary Education. I have been teaching at South Gosforth First School since September 2008 and during this time have taught from Year 1 to Year 4.  In September 2016 I was appointed as Assistant Head Teacher and SENCo. In 2018 I additionally took on the new statutory post of Designated Teacher for looked-after and previously looked-after children.  I believe that all children should be given the opportunity to reach their potential and to shine and hope that my roles in school and as a Governor can support in achieving this for all those who attend South Gosforth First School.

Mrs Kate Gingles

My name is Kate Gingles and I have been a member of the governing body since June 2016.  I live locally to the school with my husband and two children.  I am an Early Years Education Development Advisor for Durham County Council so have a particular interest in what is happening with the youngest children in the school.  Prior to this I was a Primary teacher for 10 years, and an Assistant Deputy Head of an outstanding Primary School in West London.  I am a member of the Curriculum Committee and am very much looking forward to being part of the South Gosforth community.

 Mrs Sharon Coull

I am a co-opted governor with one child at SGFS and another at GCMS. I chair the Resources sub-committee and am a Director of Gosforth Schools’ Trust. Working with a couple of business based in Newcastle as Finance Director I can use my finance background to provide the right level of support and challenge on the financial management of the school. I value the role that school plays in my children’s lives and became a governor to contribute to the ongoing improvement and leadership of the school. If you would like to contact me, please do so through the school email, governor services email or feel free to talk to me in the school yard.
