The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress visit Year 1
Today in Year 1 we were bursting with pride after the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress came to see us.  The Lord Mayor talked to us about the plastic pollution problem and how he thought Newcastle could help to change things.
He explained that he was so impressed by our letters, rather than just writing a reply, he had to come and see us in person!
We showed him our crafts and a pledge book we had made to show what we could do to help the environment.  The Lord Mayor also asked to have a copy of our pledge book so that he could learn more about what we were doing!
What a great morning!

Year 1 and the mystery of Belsay Hall
Today we had great fun on our day out at Belsay Hall.  We hunted for plants in the terrace garden, completed a scavenger hunt through the winter and quarry gardens and visited the ruins of the castle - all before our lunch!  We had a picnic lunch in front of the hall and enjoyed playing games in the sunshine with our friends before we went down into the basement of Belsay to solve the mystery!
We were amazed to discover that the cellars in Belsay have an 8 second echo, which of course we had to test out, and we had such fun calling out our names and listening to the echo.
It really was a fun day out - and thank you so much to all of our parent helpers for giving up their time to come and enjoy the day with us.

Great Year 1 of the North!
We had a great morning in Year 1 taking part in lots of activities related to the Great Exhibition of the North.  Some of us went out to the Lit & Phil Library in Newcastle where we had a tour around and took part in some writing activities.  The postcards that we wrote will be on display in the Lit & Phil - so look out for them if you are in there!
Some us took part in an Angel of the North inspired morning.  We made Angels out of playdoh and used crayons, pastels and paints to make versions of this famous landmark.
We all contributed to a fantastic Angel of the North collage on canvas.  The finished canvas will be going on display at Gosforth Civic Theatre as part of the Exhibition.  As proud as we are of this, we are looking forward to getting it back and hanging it on our own wall as we think it looks....... great!

Future Falcons Rugby Stars!
Year 1 had a lovely afternoon session, coached by a real rubgy star, where they got to learn the basics of the game.
So many children wanted to take part during their own lunchtime, which was lovely to see.
Thank you so much for to our Year 1 parent who arranged this for them, they had so much fun!
Daft as a Brush - a tricky time for Mrs Elliott
To help raise lots of money for Daft as a Brush charity Mrs Elliott bravely volunteered to be taped to the wall by all the children in school.  Our friends in 1M had great fun sticking Mrs Elliott safely to the wall and then all the school came together to watch the stool Mrs Elliott was standing on to be moved away!!!
Thankfully, enough tape had been used to make sure our lovely headteacher was safe and didn't fall off.

Great fun was had by all and lots of money was raised.  Many thanks to all who contributed to the charity.
Doctors in the Key Stage!
Today we were very lucky to have a visit from some Year 1 parents who are Doctors.  We all had great fun learning fun facts about the human body and even got to label one of the Doctors with internal organs!
Many thanks to Chloe's mum and dad
1M's Royal Picnic
Today we had a  picnic in celebration of the royal wedding tomorrow. We made crowns, commemorative plates, bunting and cakes for the picnic.  We had great fun and the sun shone down on us!
1M Class Assembly - Dear Zoo
For our class assembly we retold the story of  'Dear Zoo' and added lots of singing and dancing!  After lots of practicing we eventually got to perform in front of all our parents and the rest of the school.  Mrs McNally was so proud of us all and we had a brilliant time.  Here are a few photos and a video of our assembly.

Observational drawings from nature.
1M all went out today in the sun and drew some picture line drawings of objects from nature.  We then looked closely at daffodils, cherry blossoms trees and crocus flowers and tried to draw them in detail. What do you think?
Easter Art and Craft Time !
This week to help us celebrate Easter we completed lots of fun art and crafts activities.  We created Easter crowns and rocking hens and painted a daffodil picture to frame at home .  We had great fun !!
1M celebrate Comic Relief with  a day full of Zumba and Multi skills!
To help raise money for Comic Relief we all came into school today in our sports clothes ready for a day full of sporting activities!
We started off with a Zumba class with the rest of our friends in Reception and KS1 and then took part in various activities organised by Lee Sterry sports.  We had great fun and raised lots of money for this important charity.
1M celebrate World Book Day
To celebrate World Book Day, we all came into school dressed as our favourite book character.
Just look at our fabulous costumes!
'Build a Bridge' challenge!
All our friends  were set a DT challenge.  They had to design a bridge that could withstand the weight of a toy truck with a space rocket on the back.  The children could only use certain materials and had to consider how to make the road and how to then support the  weight of the vehicle.
We had great fun planning, making and testing our bridges and then had to think about how we could improve our design.
Year 1 Space Rocket Assembly
On Friday 9th February, all of the children in Year 1 took part in an assembly to show the rest of the school our fantastic rockets and to talk about our popular 'Explorers' topic.  So proud of all our friends ! - you sat beautifully and spoke so clearly and confidently about your work in class.
Year 1 Rocket Building Event !
On Wednesday 7th February, all our friends in Year 1 joined together with parents and grandparents to make space rockets.  The children planned their rockets in the morning and had a fantastic time working together to make them.  The grown  ups had fun too!
Here is our album from the day, with a mixture of photos from both Year 1 classes and then individual photos of  friends in 1M with their fantastic rockets.

Check back next week to see our final, colourful work of art!

During our first week of school, we talked all about our holidays and what we got up to. Our friends seemed to have had great fun visiting lots of  new places, meeting friends and trying out new things.

This term 1M will be taking part in YogaBugs. The sessions that take place every Monday intend to bring stories to life, through specially developed moves inspired by yoga.  So far 1M have blasted off into space, crept through caves and met dangerous dinosaurs!  Here are a few photos to show you what we have been up to.
I.T. Time
1M have been learning how to turn on a computer and enter passwords.  They soon got used to using the mouse and managed to draw brilliant pictures using an art package.
3 o'clock reading time!
Every day at 3 o'clock, all of 1M stop, pack up and enjoy some quiet reading time together.  We bring in our favourite book from home and enjoy reading, sharing and discussing it with our friends. Here are a few photos of us having fun and having a relaxing read.
